STEAM Mum And SciTech Kids Partner To Reimagine STEAM And Academic Enrichment To Support The Jersey City Community
NEW YORK, NY, May 17, 2021 (eReleases) – On May 22, an innovative STEAM lab, run by STEAM Mum and SciTech Kids, opens in Jersey City to reimagine how students learn STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) through hands-on experiences that captivate their imagination. The partnership also provides the academic enrichment students need through targeted tutoring to address the learning loss due to COVID-19.
Leading this initiative are two moms, Kim Magloire, founder of SciTech Kids and Racheal Fosu, founder of STEAM Mum. Fosu is an Information Technology Executive who has brought her expertise to multi-billion-dollar powerhouses Broadridge Financial, the NY Stock Exchange, and Accenture. “The tech sector is one of the best opportunities for a career pathway, given its rapid growth,” said Fosu. “I have nurtured a love of STEAM in my two sons and want to do the same for children in the community.” A STEAM lab was a natural progression for Fosu who also owns a chain of preschools in Jersey City. “Jersey City is changing rapidly and is a great place to build a social enterprise to work with local businesses,” said Fosu. Advanced students will be paired with businesses to use their tech and design skills to enhance services provided by businesses using the 3D printers, laser printer and Makerspace at the STEAM lab storefront.
Kim Magloire, a biologist and epidemiologist, develops curriculum and assessment products which focuses on Design Thinking and the SciTech Approach to teach students applications of STEAM. “Students do not just learn STEAM, they learn to solve real-world problems,” said Magloire. “We are thrilled to bring the success of SciTech Kids in New York City to Jersey City. Using these STEM skills, our students have won a contest at the White House and other national competitions.”
Students can enroll in afterschool, summer camp, academic enrichment, STEAM Fun, and drop-in programs. The youngest students are exposed to the life sciences, Scratch, engineering, and robotics to build a foundation in STEAM. Teens, ages 12 to 17, learn Minecraft Mod, 3D printing, coding, advanced sciences, and now AI, Artificial Intelligence to design driverless cars. Families can also book birthdays or host a private event.
Magloire’s philosophy is that innovation happens when we have a diverse group of individuals and perspectives at the table. “We need to increase the number of girls and students of color in the STEM field,” said Magloire. These women are changing the face of STEM by increasing the pipeline of diverse talent, one community at a time.
